Time Pullers—FINALIST in the USA Book News Best Book Awards for Science Fiction in 2012.

Time Pullers turns your reality upside down as you discover the history you are so familiar with should never have happened. A mysterious, hairless visitor is thwarted by guards in his attempt to crash a gate at a US Air Force base. This visitor insists upon seeing the base commander, and he spins an incredible, desperate tale of how his own continuum, his future reality, has been destroyed by sabotage to a point in the continuum of your own past.

Time Pullers is the author’s offering to help bring “science” back to science fiction, now that the genre has merged with and has been diluted by the fantasy genre. It is a unique approach to the subject of time travel, and in addition to the substantial use of real science, it is written in a multiple-protagonist style. If either hard science fiction or the use of other than the run-of-the-mill single-protagonist technique is not your cup of tea, then by all means, look for something easier to read. If you enjoy being challenged, however, or if you want to expand your mind and explore a different take on time travel, then come along—you could actually enjoy the ride. Many others have. But be forewarned You may ask yourself, “Is this fiction?”

Oh, the possibilities!!!!!
By customer kween0denial on September 29, 2011

“Horton Deakins' novel, Time Pullers made the idea of time travel so believable, I kept finding myself excited by the possibility that we may experience something like this in my lifetime. And it seems like a very timely book, what with the recent news that scientists have discovered particles that appear to travel faster than the speed of light.

“Good science fiction often predicts the future. Makes you wonder how powerful our thoughts really are.
“Time Pullers was a good read in terms of the character development and the story about the relationships between the people involved in this special project to change history by traveling to the past and affecting key historical events. I really enjoyed the book on all levels. Thank you, Mr. Deakins!”

Time travel explained !!!
By customer Jerry on May 20, 2011

“A great hard science fiction time travel book. Very intriguing and hard to put down. The scientific theory explanations are what sets this book apart from other sci-fi books. The detail of the time travel theories and the process leaves you convinced, and you have to remind yourself that this is fiction. Interesting characters, suspenseful storyline. If you enjoyed Contact, you will enjoy Time Pullers.”

“Full of logistical details on how to deal with a threat from the past that can seriously ruin your day in the future” – Elizabeth Ann Scarborough

“Intrigue, duplicity, parallel universes and alternate realities combine to make this a novel that perhaps hits too close to home. Thank you Mr. Deakins for a fun read!” – Wayne Harris-Wyrick, Celestial Wizard, Director Kirkpatrick Planetarium, Science Museum Oklahoma

Time Pullers eBook Horton Deakins

I write few reviews this long. This one is brutal but it is my honest opinion.

Similar to earlier reviews, I did NOT like the extensive descriptions concerning the
physics and technical side of the story. I also agree that more details and buildup of the
characters would have made the story more enjoyable, not that it was extremely enjoyable.
It turned into a couldn't-put-it-down book in that I couldn't wait to finish it in order
to go to another book. I have been reading sci-fi almost 60 years. I say this to explain I
always finish any book I start.

In my opinion, this should have been a short story containing only the last one third of
the book. I willn't (new word by tictac89) be a spoiler by giving away the ending but I also believe it could
have had a better one.

Kudos to the author for his research. If I had wanted all the research and technical
terms I could have gone to the library to get them myself. I read these type books for
enjoyment not to learn science terms. As another reviewer called into use, I also
implicated my scan & slowdown technique very often. Never once did I have to go back and
search to catch up on something I may have missed.

Time Pullers eBook Horton Deakins Reviews

Disclosure I work with the author where he and I have our "real" jobs. I have enjoyed getting to know Horton and talking with him about his book.

Many other reviewers of this book have talked about how there is a lot of scientific detail to get through. On the one hand, I think that if the reader has little or no taste for that sort of thing, or doesn't want to apply a fair amount of brain power to understanding the material, then skimming through the "sciency" parts would not keep one from enjoying the book. On the other hand, I found it remarkable how Horton was able to make it all hang together, despite the complexity. It's obvious that he spent a great deal of effort in research. I personally enjoyed reading the technical parts and learning some things. I think the "hard science" is actually the book's strongest characteristic.

Others have complained of the book's "slow start." I did not feel that the book had a slow start; on the contrary, for me, it was a "page-turner." That being said, it did seem like about 85% of the book was preparation for the real mission, then once the mission came, it didn't last long enough. That may be another way of saying that the book was too short, which is the highest praise any book could receive. Or it may be a way of saying that the book cries out for a sequel. I do hope one is forthcoming.

The book is somewhat lacking in conflict, with the characters pretty much just moving along, doing what they need to do. As for the plot twist, I must confess that it seemed too far out of character for the main actor, and lacking in finesse. After maintaining a consistent style throughout the book, suddenly the reader is confronted with images that I personally could do without.

All in all, I very much enjoyed the book and hope that Horton soon gives us more thoughtful, entertaining books.
I wanted to like this book. I love time travel stories, and only by the most generous definition does this fit that category. I kept reading thinking it would get more interesting but it really doesn't. The plot certainly has potential but i feel like the author really squandered that. 80% of the book is exposition, which by the way, makes zero sense. You spend an enormous amount of time reading an extremely repetitive and boring explanation of how these people are about to accomplish their mission and almost NOTHING interesting happens until the last 30 pages or so. Perhaps the science was completely lost on me and i just wasn't smart enough for this book, but I cannot overstate how much the reader is forced to sit through retellings of the same nonsense over and over. It was like reading a training manual at times. I believe the reviews are far too generous of this book. The characters are uninteresting and for the most part hard to like. Seriously you have no idea who the main protagonist is supposed to be until a third of the way into it. And once you figure that out you really don't even care. If you like hard science fiction then maybe this will be interesting to you but its a lame story with vague conflicts that don't keep you in suspense and a "twist" that is anything but surprising.
This book starts off very slowly and with a lot of technical physics words. In some ways this helps to make this science fiction idea seem more real, but it is a bit excessive at times. However, once I discovered that the story makes just as much sense if I simply skimmed over these sections instead of trying to read the whole thing, I began to really enjoy the story.
It is not the kind of novel that I usually enjoy the story is more developed than the characters and I usually prefer the opposite tilt, but this story was so creative and engaging that I couldn't help but enjoy it.
The idea is very unique and is presented in a very realistic fashion. You really could almost imagine this story being true.
The only major complaint I have, and I hate to say this because I know you should never judge a book by its cover, but the cover is horrible. Obviously, if you are reading this than you have already seen it. It looks to me as if a five-year-old did the design work. Unfortunately, in my opinion, this could really hurt the book as it is so intelligently written but you would never guess that from looking at it.
I would definitely recommend this book and suggest that if you are getting lost in the beginning, stick with it because it is definitely worth your time.
